"Kunie" or the "Isle of Pines" said to a jewel set in coral on a sea blue background. Situated 70 kms from Noumea in New Caledonie. The island has a colourful history the French taking possession in 1853 then in 1870 in became a French penal colony (the ruins are still visible today). Water temperature is about 20-24 degrees so a 5mm wetsuit is recommended. The diving varies from shear walls to caves to fresh water grottos, visibility 20-30m, sharks, rays, fish in abundance and a moray eel you have to see to believe its size. Definitely worth a visit. The ability to speak French is an advantage when visiting this island
